We specialize in working with individuals navigating the developmental stage known as emerging adulthood — a period that often includes college, graduate school, early career transitions, identity development, relationship changes, and increasing independence. It is a period marked by growth, exploration, and unique challenges that can bring about high levels of distress. Mental health care can play an important role in student retention within higher education and to overall well-being in the college and post college years.
HEAL Psychotherapy Group is dedicated to providing specialized care tailored to the distinct needs and experiences of the young adult journey.

Founded in 2025 by Johanna Malaga, Psy.D., a clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience working in Boston-area college counseling centers, HEAL Psychotherapy Group was created to address the growing need for specialized, accessible mental health care for young adults, particularly those navigating the demands of university life and the transitions that accompany emerging adulthood.
Throughout her work in higher education, Dr. Malaga witnessed firsthand the challenges many students faced in accessing consistent mental health support, including long wait times and extended periods between therapy sessions due to high demand for services. These barriers were especially significant for trauma survivors, who may benefit from more frequent and longer-term treatment to support their healing and recovery.
HEAL Psychotherapy Group was founded on the belief that young adults deserve access to high-quality, specialized care in the community; care that is consistent and available on a weekly and longer-term basis when needed.

HEAL Psychotherapy Group is committed to providing high-quality care for young adults through specialized training, clinical expertise, and ongoing professional development. Our practice is built around a deep understanding of the developmental experiences and mental health needs of emerging adulthood, including the unique challenges faced by college students, graduate students, and early-career professionals.
Drawing on extensive experience within higher education settings, we recognize the academic, social, and personal pressures that often accompany this stage of life. We are familiar with university systems and, when appropriate, can work collaboratively with student support services and other providers to ensure coordinated care and promote our clients’ well-being.
Our approach to treatment is grounded in evidence-based practices that integrate insight, self-understanding, and practical skill development. Therapy is tailored to each individual’s unique needs, strengths, goals, and lived experiences.
